In 2015, Mr. Diamond joined The SETI Institute as its new president and CEO. Based in Mountain View, CA, the nonprofit research center utilizes radio and optical telescopes to look for evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. Drawing upon his experience in opto-electronics and management, as well as his keen interest in working for a scientific research entity, Mr. Diamond was a perfect fit for the position. On a daily basis, he oversees the reach, reputation and direction of the institute, which bases its work on NASA- and NSF-funded research programs and mission-based projects. Some of the institute’s recent projects include the New Horizons deep space probe and the Kepler space telescope.

Mr. Diamond takes great pride in working to establish The SETI Institute as a world class institute for learning and research. He holds an MBA in international marketing from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts in physics from the College of the Holy Cross. Throughout the course of his career, he has honed his skills in the areas of organizational development, product management, team building, capital raising, sales, marketing and engineering management. Prior to joining The SETI Institute, Mr. Diamond primarily worked with fiber optics and optical networking for the telecommunications and data communications industries.  Most recently, he was the vice president of sales at Oclaro, Inc. In the coming years, he aims to assist the institute in its goal of enhancing capabilities and attracting top talent to this niche area of research.
