College Park, MD, May 6, 2016, Reginald Bennett, Senior Policy Analyst at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, has been recognized by Elite American Executives, for dedication, achievement and leadership in food microbiology.
Mr. Bennett has supplied 55 years of his career to the FDA as a senior policy analyst. In this position, he has conducted research and analyzed bacterial food poisoning. Mr. Bennett’s contributions to food microbiology have earned him a yearly scholarship book award named after him, the Reginald Bennett Garnet Wood Book Award. At the FDA, he supports the promotion of public health through the regulation and supervision of safety in food, tobacco products, dietary supplements and pharmaceutical drugs.
Mr. Bennett started his professional journey with a Bachelor of Science in microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh in 1955. Several years later, he graduated from the same university in 1958 with a Master of Science in microbiology. He has also taken coursework from the NIH Graduate School at the University of Virginia. Guiding him throughout his career has been his perseverance, creativity and multifaceted personality. In addition, Mr. Bennett is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the American Society for Microbiology, International Association for Food Protection and a fellow of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists International.
With a career as long and as successful as Mr. Bennett’s, he has been recognized on numerous occasions for his contributions to the health and safety of food in the United States for the FDA. From 1987 to 1997, Mr. Bennett received the Distinguished Service award on behalf of the Rapid Methods and Automation in Microbiology Workshops from the Division of Continuing Education from Kansas State University. He has also received the Group Recognition Award in 1990 from the Food and Drug Administration and the International’s Harvey W. Wiley Award from the Association of Official Analytical Chemists that same year. Throughout the 1990s, he earned the In Superior Service Award for Public Health Service, a Group Recognition Award and the On the Spot and Excellence in Science Awards. Additionally, he has been recognized with a Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service, the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association for Food Protection. He has also been nominated and recognized by Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
