After receiving a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Ms. Toonen realized she really wanted to work in a hands-on position where she could see the products she works on being used in the world. She joined Bostik, an adhesive manufacturer that provides clients with adhesives and sealants for the construction, transportation, packaging, personal care and hygiene, and industrial assembly markets, in 1990 as the product development chemist. Ms. Toonen also served as the company’s product development team leader, product line manager, marketing manager, and global director of R&D and marketing before assuming her current role in 2010.

As the global director of strategic marketing, Ms. Toonen is responsible for directing the company’s marketing efforts in Europe, Asia and the U.S., driving innovation and process improvement from strategic development to implementation, and developing marketing strategies for emerging markets. Ms. Toonen is recognized for her strong skill set and industry knowledge, and is a well-respected leader at the company. Well versed in international marketing and innovation in strategic planning, Ms. Toonen attributes her success to her hard work and ability to take advantage of the various opportunities her company has presented over the years.
