Staci Barrera is the assistant director of Homeland Security Investigations, a government organization that investigates immigration crime, human rights violations and human smuggling, smuggling of narcotics, weapons and other types of contraband, financial crimes, cybercrime and export enforcement issues in order to protect the nation. Ms. Barrera started serving in her position six years ago and has garnered 24 years of experience. She first entered the industry because she wanted to have a greater impact in supporting the national security and public safety mission, as well as the special agents dedicated to protecting the communities around the nation. Ms. Barrera spent the majority of her illustrious career in law enforcement and gained a strong skill set in federal law enforcement, intelligence, and criminal law, which she draws on to fulfill her responsibilities as assistant director. She completes a myriad of tasks for the organization, including administering a budget of more than $2 billion and providing support services to 7,050 special agents in approximately 250 locations in 47 countries. The winner of the Assistant Secretary’s Award and OCDETF Director’s Award, Ms. Barrera has achieved great success in her professional life. She attributes her success to her education, work ethic and good mentors, and the opportunity to be exposed to various disciplines to support continued development.
