Denison, IA, May 2, 2011, Rick Pottebaum, Supervisor at Smithfield Foods, Inc., has been recognized by Elite American Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in meat packaging.
For the past 28 years, Mr. Pottebaum has risen through the ranks in the food service industry from his start at a Hy-Vee grocery store. After being transferred to the meat department at his store, he was approached by Farmland Foods, part of the Smithfield Foods, Inc., about two openings with the company. He applied and beat out more than 900 applicants for a line worker position, which he held for 11 years. When a vacancy opened up for a night supervisor, Farmland Foods knew just who to offer it to.
In his current position, Mr. Pottebaum is responsible for the oversight of 65 to 70 employees and the equipment used. He keeps an open line of communication with the maintenance team in the event that repairs are needed. Additionally, he ensures that yields and food safety are held to the high standards of Smithfield Foods, Inc. He has also received specialized certifications in management training and team building. He received a further certification in motivational speaking from Steven Cuby.
Moving forward, Mr. Pottebaum hopes to continue advancing within Smithfield Foods, Inc., toward a group supervisor position.
