With 21 years of professional experience, Dr. Jaferian is a respected authority on intellectual asset management, technology transfers, patent analytics, strategic planning, start-up performance enhancement, and organizational development. She lends her expertise to Manitowoc Foodservice as chief IP officer. In this capacity, she is responsible for overseeing strategies for intellectual assets, creating patent portfolios, managing open innovation, valuating third-party inventions, aligning technical, business and intellectual property strategies, and counseling on patent prosecution and annuities.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Jaferian has led highly productive, multicultural and cross-functional teams in the computer, petrochemicals, telecommunications, business and consumer electronics, and food service equipment industries. She previously served as president of the intellectual property business division of Lucent Technologies, as vice president of intellectual property operations for Xerox Corporation, and as executive director of technology licensing for Amoco Corporation. Dr. Jaferian co-authored the articles “Critical Intellectual Property Issues Facing America,” “Business Power: Creating New Wealth from IP Assets,” and “IP Metrics Today Parts I and II: Global Intellectual Property Asset Management.” She attributes the success that she enjoyed in sundry aspects of her profession to her intellectual curiosity, international experience, ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, and willingness to acknowledge the contributions of others.
Dr. Jaferian holds a Doctor of Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts. Esteemed by her peers, she was named a Senior Distinguished Fellow by the National Knowledge and Intellectual Property Management Taskforce and appointed to the board of directors of the National Intellectual Property Law Institute, which she previously served as chairwoman. She is also a member of the Licensing Executives Society and a former board member of the Eliot Community Mental Health Center. She gives generously to Disabled American Veterans, the American Heart Association, The Salvation Army, Heifer International, and Habitat for Humanity International. As she moves forward, Dr. Jaferian plans to either continue in intellectual property or attain a position as a university administrator.
When she is away from her professional duties, Dr. Jaferian enjoys playing the French horn, traveling internationally, skiing, swimming, participating in a book club, taking photographs, and singing in a choir. A woman with diverse interests, she would like to someday go on safari, learn to paint in oil, and join an orchestra.
