Elaine G. Adevai specializes in individual and group counseling, and in educational administration. With 12 years of experience in the field of human services, she currently serves as head of a nonprofit organization that provides services that are not limited to psychoeducational and counseling sessions, advocacy services, and shelter for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Ms. Adevai was a victim of domestic violence, and after working as a social worker for another organization and moving up to shelter director, she established her own domestic violence shelter for women and their children in order to provide for them a safe haven. At present, her facility has the capacity to house up to seven families. She is responsible for the overall operation of the Domestic Violence Shelter. Moreover, Ms. Adevai supervises staff members, pulls out programs and supplies vocational training for the women in the shelter. As a licensed psychologist, she also offers therapeutic services and counsels those with whom she feels fortunate to work on a regular basis as well. In order to ensure that her organization remains a vital element of her community, she works with members of her community who support fundraising efforts. In recognition of her endeavors, she received the 2009 World of Women Distinction Award. She is also a member of New York State Domestic Violence Coalition.
