AUBURN, WA, May 9, 2013, Dorothy W. Schlimme, Chief Executive Officer of Management and Operations at Dorothy’s Angel Haven, has been recognized by Elite American Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in senior care.
Ms. Schlimme is a multiple adult family home provider in Auburn. She was elected vice chair of the board of the Washington State Residential Care Council of Adult Family Homes (WSRCC), the state association of 3,000 homes. She also served five years as president of the South King County chapter of WSRCC. WSRCC and its chapters advocate for the needs and care for vulnerable adults through the support of Adult Family Homes. She is a popular and effective spokesperson, representing WSRCC in numerous settings throughout the state, including senior advocacy organizations and also with the Washington State Legislature. Among her many roles with WSRCC, she chairs the vendor and benefactor committee, which generates revenue to enhance WSRCC’s education division. In May 2008, she was nominated to the Washington State Ombudsman Advisory Council. This organization is dedicated to improve the quality of care in long-term facilities. After serving humbly and seriously, she was elected chair the advisory council in 2010. Due to her expertise in the care of seniors, the Long Term Care Ombudsman and DSHS Licensing Department recommended her to co-present and author a curricula training others how to run a successful adult family home business. This adult family home 48-hour administrative training is a five-credit course at Highline Community College, where she is a part-time instructor. She co-authored the residential administration class now offered in some community colleges in Washington State.
A graduate of Swiss Hotel Management College in Switzerland, Ms. Schlimme joined the Westin Hotel after moving to Seattle in 1995. Her work with the Westin led to extensive service with United Way’s “Day of Caring,” where she fulfilled her life-long passion working with seniors through companionship, cleaning, and other activities that improve their quality-of-life. She has also worked in nursing homes and her genuine enthusiasm assisting seniors led to her opening Dorothy’s Angel Haven Adult Family Home, with her husband, Thomas Schlimme, in 2001. They have been married for 12 years and have three beautiful girls. Her Angel Haven was recognized by the Auburn Award program and named the best of 2012 in Residential Care Facilities. As an instructor, her students rewarded her as the teacher of the year in March 2013.
Ms. Schlimme offers exceptional care for the mature population, as well as dietician-designed meals, companionship, daily living, medication management, recreational activities, birthday parties and celebrations in a small home environment with private and semi-private rooms. The adult care facility also provides laundry and housekeeping services, transportation, and community involvement. Ms. Schlimme serves as a care provider, oversees marketing initiatives, coordinates activities and appointments, and communicates with medical practitioners. Ms. Schlimme pinpoints the most gratifying aspect of her career as bringing laughter, brightening the workplace and challenging others to aspire to greater levels.
