Mr. Brett shines as a luminary in his field, bringing forth years of experience to his current role and expertise in the balance of vision and strategy and management of the creative and analytical sides of business to a trusted retailer of home furnishings. He is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of the West Elm brand, including the financial, operational, analytical and creative functions. Over the course of a successful career, which has spanned more than 22 years, Mr. Brett has come to attribute his success to being passionate and highly collaborative; he creates a culture in which people from all different backgrounds can effectively work together.
Mr. Brett has been president at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. since January, 2010, and the founding president of West Elm Market since 2012. He has two decades of experience, and formerly served as chief merchandising officer for the Urban Outfitters brand, merchandise manager for Anthropologie Home, divisional vice president of women’s apparel for JC Penney, and began his career with May Company Dept. Stores after graduating Boston University with a degree in marketing in 1991. With an unusual blend of multi-channel and multi-category department store, chain store, and specialty store experience, Mr. Brett has delivered a consistent track record of excellence in his field.
